I was told it was another one of Haos followers,i think he is called Peyote,hes the one who kills the Hanagumi.Well thats what i was told.

From what I heard they become good guys and eventually get killed but Anna takes care of their spirits.

Allow me to explain, according to what many Hanagumi fansites and the manga says, Hao questions their loyalty but they say they will remain loyal to him forever, but Hao says their lying and orders Peyote to kill them thus ending the lives of the Hanagumi. However though in the end, Anna brings them back and tells them they can make up for their evil ways and work for her and Yoh.

Wow, El Puma. THANK YOU for clearing that up. Besides, I normally dislike Hanagumi, but Kana. . . she reminds me of, well, me! Most of the time, anyway.

They don't get eaten. Yoh and Anna made sure of that. They were revived by Hao before they went to Mu (I think)
