Fushigi Yuugi

Yui drags Miaka to the library to return a book, where out of the corner of her eye Miaka sees a beautiful red bird. Both girls follow the bird to the restricted area of the library where they find the book "The Universe of Four Gods" laying open with a soft red glow about it. As they read the two girls are suddenly transported into the world of the book. They are attacked by bandits and are saved by a handsome martial artist named Tamahome who demands payment for their rescue. When he realizes they have nothing to offer he leaves them stranded. Yui suddenly gets pulled back to the real world where she can only read about Miaka who has been left alone in a strange place.
Miaka doesn't stay lonely for long, she soon realizes that to return to her world she must take on the role of the "Suzaku no Miko" or Priestess of Suzaku. Doing so she can summon the God Suzaku to grant her three wishes. To summon him she must find the Suzaku Seven, of which Tamahome is one. Along the way she finds romance, betrayal, pain, and happiness. She also learns that the largest obstacles can come from the most unexpected places.
