I think it is like this: Yu-gi-oh is anime which means it is made in Japan.But because the story is also happening in Egypt and some characters are from Egypt they gave them egyptian names.Malik is an egyptian name.BUT because there is no letter L in japanese "alphabet",they have a hard time pronouncing it.That is why they say something between L and R. That is why Malik became Marik.
