I don't think you have to worry about Rei growing up... She's some sort of "semi-angel", a ghost (in the End of Evangelion), therefore, se does not live, nor can she die, neither can she grow up... She turns into the Neo-Lilith... Which is a bit scary if you know ho Lilith is according to the Apocryphae Bible...
