Overview: Since I live on the west coat, I've never been to an east coast convention, so I was coming blind as far as what to expect. What I saw was pretty impressive. There was a nice amount of attendees at the con. Plenty of stuff going on 24/7 as far as panels, dances, Giant Tetsuo flesh baby wandering around. So let's dive into the meat of this, shall we?
Location: You could not have asked for a better location than what they have picked. Within walking distance of the convention is a mall, lots of restaurants, plenty of bars, and a 7-11. The mall had plenty of food choices, and it is really entertaining to wander a mall filled with so many people in costume. I also have to mention, Anime Expo is my usual big anime con. One thing Otakon completely nukes Anime Expo with is their game room. You could probably fit 30 of Anime Expo's game rooms into Otakon's game room. Probably around 70 - 100 games systems were in there. I was really impressed.
Cosplay: I do have to say, I really liked the cosplay at the con. There were a couple of costumes that really shocked me.
Because Quail Man rules:
Random Violence between Nunsa and Magikarp:
This one had me in shock:
Giant Tetsuo Baby X Companion Cube OTP:
Masquerede: I am a pretty harsh judge when it comes to masqueredes, so I am going to stick to the positive here. Skit #3 , Metal Gear Unbalanced, was pretty hilarious in my book. Solid Snake noming on some rations cracked me up.
Skit #10, Cournicopia, was another good one. They redid the words to the song "We didn't start the fire" so that the lyrics were a bunch of anime titles. I enjoyed this one thourghly.
Skiit #24 whose name I did not catch was another one of the great ones. Kefka and Zack in video game afterlife. Unfortunately, Aeris wasn't there because she is Mormon.
Summary: Otakon was a very fun con for me. Had the fun big con night life that I missed this year at Anime Expo. I enjoyed all the random people I met. There were some things that just cracked me up when I wandered, like the fish fight. I definitely plan on returning next year.
