Until, he met them leaf ninjas lol. Lee was faster than the sand and was able to hit Gaara. But he didnt hurt him... cuz he had sand covering his body (like on his body) but thats something else right now. Anyway what I mean is the sand automatically blocks anything from hitting him, but Lee's fast movements were able to move faster than the sand. Same for Sasuke....
